“Where I am From” Poem
I am from noodles,
The smell of work and sweat,
The sight of a great wall atop the mountains,
I am from Confucius ideas,
Four stringed lyres,
And dragons that roam streets at new year’s eve,
I am from a powerful empire,
A peasant turned Emperor,
And the nation of Dragons,
I am from 330 B.C.,
The start of a nation,
And a new age,
I am from pandas,
Bamboo forests,
And rice paddies,
I am from the land of quotes,
The land of gunpowder,
And grand shows of fireworks,
I am from trade along the Silk Road,
Trading silk for spices,
And jade for metals,
I am from unparalleled porcelain mastery,
From amazing architectural feats,
And ideas that have survived throughout the ages,
I am from conquerors,
From the Yin and Yang,
And old Chinese tradition,
I am from Asia,
I am from China,
I am from the Han Dynasty.
I am from noodles,
The smell of work and sweat,
The sight of a great wall atop the mountains,
I am from Confucius ideas,
Four stringed lyres,
And dragons that roam streets at new year’s eve,
I am from a powerful empire,
A peasant turned Emperor,
And the nation of Dragons,
I am from 330 B.C.,
The start of a nation,
And a new age,
I am from pandas,
Bamboo forests,
And rice paddies,
I am from the land of quotes,
The land of gunpowder,
And grand shows of fireworks,
I am from trade along the Silk Road,
Trading silk for spices,
And jade for metals,
I am from unparalleled porcelain mastery,
From amazing architectural feats,
And ideas that have survived throughout the ages,
I am from conquerors,
From the Yin and Yang,
And old Chinese tradition,
I am from Asia,
I am from China,
I am from the Han Dynasty.
