When I got my culture at the beginning of the year and saw Han Dynasty, I was thinking “this is going to be so boring, why couldn't I get one of the cannibalistic cultures? Those ones seem like a lot of fun”, but as I began studying I realized that there is a lot more to this culture than just a time period in a long line of dynasties. What got me going was when I read about the first emperor, he was so cool, he was the first peasant to ever become an emperor which is an achievement that is not easily reached! I have respect for that, and it wet my taste buds for more. After more studying this culture became even more colorful, I read about Chinese battling Mongols with wicked weapons like the crossbow in my scrapbook. I especially liked the military generals (though I wouldn't be able to name any of them if asked), they used ingenious battle tactics and maneuvers, and used materials, such as kites, for their advantage in the battlefield. It’s amazing how much the Han Dynasty made history, I never would have thought, unless I did this of course, that one Dynasty could have such an impact on the history of the world.
I think it was worth picking the first emperor of the Han Dynasty, because this guy is the one who started it all. He led a rebellion against the government and won! And then after the rebellion he was able to grab on to the throne! I find this amazing because coming from a peasantry family you would've thought that he would've been disposed of by nobles and other higher ranking people, but no, this guy got it all for himself. The victory, the throne, and the money that went with it. I also found it amazing that the dynasty didn't just fall apart after his death since his wife almost succeeded in killing all his children to take the throne for her own family, but no, the dynasty lived on for another strong four hundred years under the strong leadership of his descendants, such as emperor Wudi. I really doing the art page, because I got to immerse myself in Chinese art like never before. I truly love the sculptures, they’re magnificent, and I wished I could have added more details to their captions along with more pictures.
Although I enjoyed studying this culture, I cannot say that I would want to be immersed in it. For one, I don’t even really like living in Italy, I wish I was back in the U.S. Two, I would never have the patience to learn a language such as Chinese. Three, although I did say the rulers of the Han Dynasty had strong leadership, I would want to live under such a government, I like our current government. I think sometimes it is just better to look on something from afar. I’m an observer, not Marco Polo.
